There is something special about seeing familiar faces outside the usual school day or Sunday routine. Christ the King’s Annual SPICE Fundraiser gives parents, parishioners, educators, alumni, and other supporters a chance to spend an evening together while raising money for a school and parish that mean a lot to their families, and evenings like that tend to stick with people long after the event itself is over. It is the kind of gathering that reminds a whole community why that support matters in the first place.

That made this year’s event an easy one for Knowles Law Firm to get behind. We sponsored the June 4 fundraiser, and attorneys Matt and Ben Knowles were there to enjoy the evening and support Christ the King alongside other families from the community.

What the SPICE Fundraiser Means for Our Community

SPICE stands for Supporting Parish Investment in Catholic Education. Each year, the fundraiser brings together families, alumni, educators, and local businesses in support of Christ the King Parish and its school.

The evening is also a chance for people connected to Christ the King to spend time together outside the usual routines of school, work, and church. Matt and Ben attended this year’s event alongside many of the families and educators who make up that community, and sponsoring the fundraiser was a simple way to show support for an event that clearly means a great deal to the people involved, from the volunteers organizing it to the students it ultimately benefits.

A Connection That Goes Beyond This One Event

Ben has spoken before about how much of his family’s time outside the office goes toward church and school organizations, which is part of why supporting a fundraiser like SPICE felt like a natural fit for him and Matt this year. That same family-first mindset runs through the rest of the firm as well:

  • Family ownership: the firm was founded nearly 60 years ago by James Knowles, Sr., and every attorney who works here today is still a member of the Knowles family.
  • Direct access: our attorneys answer their own phones, share their personal cell numbers, and handle cases directly instead of passing them off to a paralegal.
  • Lasting relationships: some of our client relationships go back multiple generations, with families returning to us whenever they need help.

That combination of family ownership and direct client care is part of why community sponsorships like SPICE feel like a natural fit for us. Whether we are handling a personal injury case or supporting a parish fundraiser, we approach it the same way, by showing up and doing the work ourselves rather than handing it off. That approach has also helped our attorneys earn recognition from legal organizations and directories over the years.

Looking Ahead to SPICE 2027 With Ben and Kate Knowles

The Knowles family’s involvement with SPICE will continue next year in a new way. Attorney Ben Knowles and his wife, Kate Knowles, will join two other couples in chairing the SPICE fundraiser on June 3, 2027, taking on more of the planning and organization required to bring the event together each year. Chairing a fundraiser like SPICE typically means helping coordinate everything from sponsorships to event logistics, work that usually falls to a small group of dedicated volunteers.

Catholic schools also continue to serve a substantial number of families nationwide. More than 1.68 million students attended over 5,800 Catholic schools during the 2024 to 2025 academic year, according to the National Catholic Educational Association. Local events such as SPICE give individual parish and school communities an opportunity to support their own programs while bringing families together.

Knowles Law Firm Is Here for Christ the King and for You

There is plenty of planning ahead before next year’s SPICE Fundraiser, and we look forward to sharing more as June 3, 2027, gets closer. We are proud to support Ben and Kate as they take on this new role, and we look forward to another evening with the Christ the King families who make the event possible.

Our attorneys spend much of their time helping Nebraska families navigate the aftermath of serious accidents, drawing on 55 years of combined experience, and we bring the same personal, direct approach to that work that we bring to our involvement in the community.
